Overview

Role Purpose:

To support the growth of the health portfolio by developing new business relationships, strengthening broker and client engagement, and supporting the underwriting process. The role provides a hybrid of business development and underwriting support, ensuring the team has dedicated capacity to focus on expanding group health opportunities while maintaining operational consistency.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development 

  • Identify, develop, and manage relationships with brokers, intermediaries, and potential corporate clients.
  • Actively pursue new business opportunities in the group health market.
  • Attend industry events, conferences, and meetings to represent the Health department.
  • Follow up on leads, renewal opportunities, and prospect pipelines to increase conversion.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations or pitch materials in collaboration with Marketing.
  • Conduct market research to identify emerging trends and competitive movements.
  • Track business development activities and maintain accurate CRM data.

Underwriting Support 

  • Assist the Senior Underwriter with preparation of quotations, renewal summaries, and documentation.
  • Support initial screening and assessment of group health enquiries.
  • Coordinate information flow between brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with analysis of lost business and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Provide administrative and technical support during peak underwriting periods.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a sales role, ideally within an insurance environment, demonstrating strong client engagement, confidence in approaching clients, and a natural flair for relationship building. 
  • A Level standard of education, or an equivalent qualification in Marketing or Insurance. 
  • Fluency in written and spoken Maltese and English, with very strong communication skills. 
  • Commercial awareness and comfort in client facing situations, with the ability to understand client needs and identify business opportunities. 
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills, combined with excellent attention to detail. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines within a fast paced environment. 
  • Proactive, self driven, confident, and professional in representing the organisation externally.
